CARDOZA AND IMAGEN FORM COOPERATIVE PARTNERSHIP,
EMPHASIZE “UP MARKETING IN A DOWN MARKET”

MODESTO, Calif. — Public relations experts Carrie Cardoza Bordona and Virginia Madueno are taking their own advice for thriving in a recession economy.

“Don’t reduce your marketing and public relations budget, increase it,” said Cardoza Bordona. “When your competition cut their budgets, your message comes across even more.”

It's been proven time and time again, businesses that boost their marketing budget in a recession experienced sales growth.

Citing a MarketSense study, Cardoza Bordona said during the 1989-91 recession, the following companies increased their marketing and experienced sales gains: Jif Peanut Butter, up 57 percent; Kraft salad dressing, up 70 percent; Pizza Hut, up 61 percent; and Taco Bell, up 40 percent.

The president and founder of Cardoza Associates, Inc., Cardoza Bordona along with Madueno, president of Imagen Public Relations, recently developed in a full-color brochure lauding the Modesto firms' unconventional marketing techniques and expertise in grassroots public outreach and community involvement.”

Cities and Counties are often required to implement varying degrees of community involvement and public outreach for specific growth or expansion projects.

“Although the brochure targets Cities and Counties, it certainly overlaps into assisting the private sector as well,” Madueno said

Imagen and Cardoza Bordona’s cooperative partnership is significant because government agencies and private companies need to be sensitive in how they reach the increasingly growing Hispanic community.

"You can't simply translate the general market communications plan into Spanish, Madueno said. “Appealing to Hispanic citizens is much different, so a separate plan must be developed.

In addition to the new brochure, both firms developed new corporate logos, and Cardoza Bordona launched a new website – www.gocardoza.com.

LOCAL BUILDING ASSOCIATION WINS NATIONAL HONOR

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — The Modesto-based Building Industry Association of Central California took first place in the category of Best Public Relations Program at the recent National BIA conventional here.

Competing in the division for local associations with 251 to 500 members, the BIACC was honored for the public education campaign it conducted on school fees in the Merced Union High School District.

Steve Madison, executive vice president of the BIACC, said the campaign included news releases, newspaper viewpoint pieces written by Guy Maxwell, president of the Building Industry Association of Merced County, and a website: www.4betterschools.com.

“On the website, information was posted regarding school fee issues in Merced County,” said Madison.
“The website also included a direct link to the California Code of Regulations regarding developer fees and an Excel spreadsheet with developer impact fees from throughout the Central Valley.”

The website, said Madison received 4,476 “hits” during the course of the campaign in 2005. The website and public relations campaign was directed by Carrie Cardoza Bordona and Jack Doo of Cardoza and Associates in Modesto.

“Cardoza and Associates, Inc. did a great job in getting our key messages to the public,” said Madison. “The campaign deserved the national recognition it received because the website was credible and we provided valuable information so the public could make their own decision.”

RS&E Hired to Help Find Buyer
for Triple-A's Rainiers

SACRAMENTO - George Foster, the owner of the Tacoma Rainiers, has hired public relations and advertising agencies Runyon Saltzman & Einhorn, Inc., of Sacramento and Cardoza & Associates, Inc., of Modesto to assist in finding a buyer for the Triple-A baseball team.

Foster, who has owned the team for the past 10 seasons, has been searching for a buyer for the Rainiers since August 2000. Foster said he needs to sell the team because a death in the family required that he spend more time with the family business, Foster Farms, a national distributor of chickens based in Modesto, Calif.

Foster said he would like to keep the team in Tacoma, but so far no buyer from the Tacoma area has stepped up to the plate, so to speak. He is hoping that increased publicity will help find a buyer for the team.

Tacoma has a long tradition of Triple-A baseball, beginning in 1960, when the team was an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Currently the top affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, the Rainiers were the Pacific Coast League co-champions during 2001, with an 85-59 record.

Runyon Saltzman & Einhorn, Inc., is a full-service public relations, advertising and social marketing firm based in Sacramento, and is one of the city's largest agencies. Its clients have included several in sports, including the Sacramento Kings NBA basketball team and the Sacramento River Cats Triple-A baseball team. Currently, it is the advertising agency for the Golden State Warriors basketball team in Oakland. RS&E's principals are Jean Runyon, chairwoman of the board; Estelle Saltzman, president; and Jane Einhorn, senior vice president.

Established in 1998, Cardoza & Associates, Inc., is a full-service public relations, advertising, marketing and graphic design company in downtown Modesto that is an affiliate of RS&E. The firm is led by President Carrie Cardoza.

Cardoza & Associates Enters Regional Partnership

MODESTO, Calif., August 16, 2001 -- Cardoza & Associates, Inc. of Modesto and Runyon, Saltzman & Einhorn, Inc. of Sacramento, both advertising, public relations and public affairs firms, have formed a partnership to service clients throughout the Central Valley.

Cardoza & Associates is completing nearly three years of business under the leadership of its president, Modesto native Carrie Cardoza. Established in 1999, the firm also provides graphic design services. The partnership leaves intact the identity and ownership of the firms, while giving each firm access to new clients and a fresh market.

"This partnership allows me to offer clients an expanded array of services and products. I'm also excited about the relationship because RS&E shares my firm's commitment to combining professional activities with community service," Cardoza said.

Founded in 1960, RS&E is recognized for its statewide social marketing campaigns for the California Department of Health Services and is among the largest communications firms in the Sacramento area. Its private sector clients include the Golden State Warriors, River City Bank and the Northern California franchise of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.

"In the past year, we have been involved in several Central Valley projects that prompted us to look for a strategic partner with roots in the Modesto-Fresno area. Cardoza & Associates was a perfect fit," said RS&E President Estelle Saltzman.

Located in downtown Modesto, Cardoza & Associates was formerly known as Boyle/Kilpatrick & Associates, Inc. The firm's clients include, but are not limited to, Foster Farms Dairy, County Bank, the City of Modesto, the law offices of Curtis & Arata, Stanislaus County, House of Carpets Carpet One, Scenic Nursery and the California Tomato Growers Association.
